Edward O. Nierer, 80 of Walnutport passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Berger) Nierer, whom he married on November 21, 1973. Born in Slatington on November 4, 1940 he was the son of the late Edward F. and Sabina J. (Williams) Nierer. Edward began his career working on the railroad in New York. He then was employed for the former Bethlehem Steel for over 32 years, holding various positions such as laborer, crane operator and heater. Edward was an avid fan of Northern Lehigh Sports, and sprint car racing, and he loved all animals.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Steven Nierer of Allentown; daughters: Brenda Walter of Slatington, Lori and husband Blaine Eckhart of New Tripoli, Sabina and husband Chad Schippang of Bath; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother: Alex Nierer and wife Linda of Slatington; sister: Carol Lichtenwalner of Slatington; many nieces & nephews. Edward was predeceased by a son Wayne Nierer and a brother John Nierer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11 AM. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Slatington. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Edward’s memory to Furry Feet, 771 S. Cottonwood Rd, Walnutport PA 18088
