Doris Scherer

Doris L. Scherer, 91, a resident of Sacred Heart Assisted Living, Northampton, formerly of Slatington, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.  She was the wife of the late Elwood “Pepper” Scherer, who passed away this past June.   Born on July 22, 1929 in Emerald, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Louella (Peters) Snyder.   She was a graduate of Slatington High School, Class of 1947 where she was a majorette.   Doris began her career working for Paris Neckware, Walnutport.   She then worked as a payroll clerk for the American Nickeloid, Walnutport.    Following her retirement, she worked as a clerk for Bechtel’s Pharmacy in Slatington.   Doris was a faithful member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Emerald.   She enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, and could often been seen walking through town with her late husband Pepper.
She is survived by a daughter: Beverly Zeiser and husband Edward Donnelly of Slatington; son: Brent Scherer of Slatington; brother: Clark Snyder of FL; sister: Grace Snyder of TN; nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and also great great nieces & nephews.   She was pre-deceased by siblings Arthur Snyder and Eleanor Jones.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington.   Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11AM.   Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Slatington.   A celebration of Doris’ and Pepper’s lives will be planned at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to either St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 7860 Center St, Emerald, or Sacred Heart Assisted Living by the Creek, 602 E. 21st, Northampton PA 18067
