Gary D. Andrew, 64 of Walnutport died Sunday May 26, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital at Lehigh Valley Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Barbara J. (Solt) Andrew; they celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on May 8. Born in Palmerton, he was the son of Marshall L. Andrew of Palmerton and the late Marie (Pettit) Andrew. Gary served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He attended Penn State, and worked for Air Products for 28 years as a Lead Application Chemist retiring in 2011. Gary was an active board member of the Walnutport Playground Association since 2001. He was responsible for organizing the Dream Come True Fundraiser at the playground, and helped coordinate the Phillies Home Run Derby. He began his career in baseball as a PIAA umpire. He was the head coach of the Northern Lehigh Connie Mack Team , and helped form the Northern Valley Connie Mack Team.. He was a former president of the Northern Lehigh Baseball Association, and began as an assistant coach for Northern Lehigh JV team. He was a member of NLYAA, the Diamond Fire Co., the Walnutport VFW, the American Legion Post 16, Slatington, and Christ UCC, Walnutport.

Survivors: Wife, Father, Daughter Jennifer wife of Matthew Wertman of Bowmanstown. Sons; Dale Andrew of MA, Stephen Andrew and fiancée Heather Lutz of York, Jonathan Andrew and fiancé Kimberly Fiske of Slatington. 5 Grandchildren; Sisters; Marie wife of Gary Snyder of Palmerton, and Marsha Andrew of Lehighton. He was pre-deceased by siblings Marshall Jr., Keith, Todd, and Dana.

Services: 11AM Thursday May 30, Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Street, Slatington. Calling hour 6-8PM Wednesday May 29 at the funeral home and 10-11AM Thursday. Interment with military honors to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Slatington.
