In Loving Remembrance

Jane E. Garrity Smith

August 24, 1932        September 9, 2021

Surrounded by the light of God's Loving Kindness – Jane E. Smith of Delran, NJ – the beloved wife of Dale C. Smith and cherished daughter of Agnes Caskie Garrity and Russell E. Garrity has gone to be with the Lord.
Jane was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Slatington, graduated from Slatington High School and received her Nursing degree in Philadelphia!
Toward the end of her long journey, Jane received compassionate care from her loving family at home in Delran, NJ and then at Arbor Terrace, Mount Laurel, NJ.
Jane and Dale's marriage in 1955 formed the heart of the Smith's welcoming home in Willingboro, NJ.  This was the fun and safe place to be for their beautiful and engaging daughters Linda Kay and Sharon Ann.
Their home was a magnet place for childhood friends and family gatherings.  Jane's home-making skills evolved when she was a spirited child in Slatington.  She enjoyed her cooking adventures with her grandfather and became a chef, creating goodies for her brothers.  Jane passed her baking skills to her granddaughter Kayla.  Lots of enthusiasm went into their cupcakes.
As a teenager(in the forties and fifties) Jane explored Slatington.  After Girl Scouts, she and her friends toured the stores in town – especially the Sweet Shop and Candy Land.  Sunday walks and hikes even took them across the train trestle!  When not having fun, they climbed on an old green bus to go pick peaches or potatoes.  They also made music together.  Jane vivaciously speed-played the piano as fast as she roller-skated.
Many stories and pictures ages 4-9 reveal her fun years and challenges bookended by her brothers.  She created games – they lost her only doll – she dressed them as dolls – they gave her the puppies to hug.  The trio played in the winter snow and explored the summer fields of flowers except when they slid in the mud or were covered with tar.  So Jane began her relationship skills with her brothers.
So remarkable was her natural friendliness that her shy RCA engineer husband hosted a celebration in her honor... then stepping forward to share how he admired her affability.  Soon after that as they were out and about, he took on that quality.
When they met people, Dale was compellingly friendly and disarmingly funny.  So
Jane would say, “He is just teasing” or “Come on Dale!” as she listened in amazement.  Sharon and Linda are graced with their mother's welcoming, mindful friendliness … now being shared with many.
Jane enjoyed feeding the birds.  She appreciated nature's rainbow of colors in her flower garden.  Her daughters gifts of flowers and scarves held a touch of red.  Jane especially liked red.
Jane enjoyed all the family dogs from English Setters to Hound Dogs!  Linda Kay as a child enjoyed their dog Inky.  Now she and John cherish their prize-winning Samoyed show dogs named Pashka, Azar and Ariel.  Sharon, Mike and Kayla took their family dog Neishka to comfort Jane on visits to Arbor Terrace.
Mike and Sharon with admiration, delight in their daughter's focus, integrity and kindness as they eagerly await her graduation from JMU!  Neishka will be a happy pup when fun-loving Kayla returns home.
Kayla transformed the meaning of being a grandparent for Jane and Dale.  Together the trio shared activities that inspired a bond through loving kindness deeper than words!  Jane and Dale experienced Amazing Joy!   Their kindness flowed into the river of life – overcoming many challenges.
Jane's beautiful sparkling eyes told us to keep a song in the pocket of our heart and to have a good belly laugh.

To “be known” - loved and appreciated is so life giving!
Jane often shared(from her heart and actions) the Christian message...
“A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine.”  Proverbs 17:22
