Janet Kern

Janet E. (Fasching) Kern, 63, of Walnutport passed away peacefully on November 26, 2014 in her residence. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Catherine (Kacsur) Fasching. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Lewis E. Kern. A 1968 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School, Janet later received her Master’s degree in education from Kutztown State College. She retired from Northern Lehigh School District in 2007 after teaching 8th grade English for 35 years. During her time at Northern Lehigh, Janet coached cheerleading, advised the Academic Challenge Eighth (ACE) team, served as president of NLEA, mentored 30 students, taught classroom management workshops at KU, and worked in the ticket booth at football games. After retiring, she became the moderator of the ACE and Sixth Sense academic competitions. Janet enjoyed traveling, trivia, and spending time with friends and family. She loved Disney World and Broadway. She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic, Berlinsville, where she had served as Sunday school teacher, lector, and Eucharistic minister.
Survivors: Son; Andrew L. and wife Whitney, and daughter Katherine L, all of Walnutport; aunts: Joan Wagner, Margaret Bittner, Veronica Gunkel, Doris Bobenich; uncle: James Kacsur; sister-in-law, Karen Kern, wife of the late Kenneth Kern; sister-in-law, Mary Eckhart; sister-in-law, Suzanne Bloomfield, and husband Morris; brother-in-law, Bob Morgan, and wife Margaret; brother-in-law, Fred Wehr, husband of the late Margaret; brother-in-law, Richard Stahley, husband of the late Louise; many nieces, and nephews, and cousins.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial 11AM Tuesday December 2, 2014 St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 1152 Oak Rd, Walnutport, PA 18088. Calling hour 6-8PM Monday December 1 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington PA 18080
