Shirley Kuntz

Shirley A. Kuntz, 77, of Lehigh Township passed into eternal life on Monday, April 29, 2013 at The Village at Palmerton under the care of Hospice. She was born in Walnutport on September 21, 1935 to Delbert and Grace (Easterday) Oplinger. To Shirley, family was her life and she especially adored her grandchildren. She was a Girl Scout,

4-H member and Den Mother of Cub Pack 201, Indianland. A 1953 graduate of Northampton High School and 1957 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College, she went on to teach elementary school for 30 years in Northampton Area School District. Most of her career was spent at Lehigh Elementary School where she was loved by the students and esteemed by her colleagues. She mentored many young teachers. After retirement in 1992, she and husband Donald traveled the lower 48 of the continental US and parts of Canada in an RV. Shirley was a member of the PSEA, NEA, Keystone Kountry Kampers club, a past member of the Lehigh Township Lioness Club, the Northampton Big "?N' Band boosters, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She loved to read, knit, cook, do crossword puzzles and work in her flower beds. She was a life long member and past Sunday School teacher at St. Paul's UCC of Indianland, Cherryville, PA. Survivors: Beloved husband of 54 years Donald A., son Christopher D. and wife Diane of Walnutport, daughter Stephanie A., wife of Larry Carbonell of Walnutport, sister Audrey J. Blickensderfer of Easton, cousin Stanley and wife Claudia Clifton of Battleground, WA, 4 grandchildren, uncles, aunt, nieces and nephews. Services: Family and friends are invited to call 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 2 at the Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N 2nd St., Slatington, PA 18080; and 10 to 11 am, on Friday, May 3, at St. Paul's UCC of Indianland, 787 Almond Rd, Walnutport followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am. The interment will conclude services at Indianland Cemetery. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.hardingfuneralhomeinc.com.
