Carl P. Fritchey, Jr.

Carl P. “Butch” Fritchey, Jr., 78, of Slatington, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was the husband of Mary (Priovolos) Fritchey. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Carl P. and Cora (Harris) Fritchey.

Carl graduated from Catasauqua High School and earned his degree in Psychology from the University of Utah. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. While working at Bethlehem Steel, he found joy in purchasing land in Slatington. He poured his heart into nurturing an apple orchard and vineyard, which grew into Fritchey Farms. As his apple orchard thrived and he began pressing cider, a simple passion blossomed into what is now the Emerald Cider Mill.

His farm was his greatest joy and the work of his heart. Every tree, every field, and every crop carried the mark of his hard work and devotion. He found peace and happiness at his quarry, where he loved feeding his fish and spending time with family and friends. This year, he celebrated his finest harvest, a fitting testament and beautiful reflection of the love and care he poured into his land throughout his life.

Carl proudly shared the fruits of his labor with the Northern Lehigh community as an original vendor at the Walnutport Canal Festival. Through his hard work and generosity, he not only cultivated his land, but also cultivated lasting connections. He left behind a legacy rooted in dedication, community, and the simple joy of sharing what he grew.

Carl’s spirit of adventure and love for travel were defining parts of his life. He was especially captivated by the beauty of Utah, where in his younger years he could often be found cross-country skiing, hiking, and camping in Utah’s State Parks. His journeys carried him far, traveling extensively throughout both Europe and the United States. A passionate scuba diver, Carl spent countless days exploring the vibrant waters of the Caribbean. In his later years, he found joy closer to home—swimming, relaxing, and cherishing time with family and friends at Promised Land Lake.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Mary, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Cristine Fritchey of Catasauqua and June Fritchey of Schnecksville; and two grandchildren, Julian and Kylie. He was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Zimmer and Kathleen Fritchey.

The family will receive guests from 6-8 PM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. 2nd St., Slatington, PA 18080. Funeral and burial services will be held privately at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carl’s memory to PA Caring Hearts and sent to 656 Yorkshire Drive, Breinigsville, PA 18031.
