Doris Roland

May 8, 1958 — March 20, 2015

Doris E. Roland, 56, of Slatington, PA, died Friday, March 20, after a long, brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family during the last days of her illness. Born in San Francisco, CA she was the daughter of Charlotte (Delahaie) and the late Walter J. Roland of Slatington, PA. Doris worked in childcare, and at Paris Neckware, Walnutport, where she made many friends. Doris was loved for her sunny disposition, and zany sense of humor which made people laugh and smile. Often referred to as "Do-ie", she was an animal and music lover; a bowling/Zumba/country line-dancing specialist; a travel enthusiast, a beach-loving sun worshiper and a lovely, generous-spirited person. Do-ie was loved by all her family and especially by her 21 nieces and nephews, who remember her energy and enthusiasm at gatherings, her readiness to laugh out loud, and idle threats of reproach during games and sports when suspecting foul play. Her courage and grace in the face of this devastating disease is an inspiration to all. Doris was one of life's irreplaceable, genuine characters. Survivors: Doris is survived by her mother, Charlotte D. Roland of Slatington and aunts Wendy Matthews (San Jose, Ca.) and Suzanne Delahaie (Laurel, Md.); and sisters Molly Dennehy of Emmaus; twin sister Charlotte Schmoyer of Slatington and Rachel Roland of Germansville. Brothers Walter of Orefield, Jerome of Phoenix, Arizona; Matthew of West Chester; Timothy of Emmaus and Daniel of Danielsville. Doris was preceded in death by her sister Patricia. Services: Arrangements are being handled by the Harding Funeral Home in Slatington, Pa. Calling hours are Friday, 27 March from 10 -11 a.m. at the Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Slatington followed by a Memorial Mass and a light lunch in the church hall. Contributions: Flowers are so fleeting; instead please consider making a contribution to the American Cancer Society or Forgotten Felines and Fidos in Germansville
