Dorothy J. Handwerk, 95, of Slatington, passed away, April 2, 2010 in Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. She was the wife of the late Paul S. Handwerk who passed away in January of 2009. Born in Punxsutawney, she was the daughter of the late Paul & Mary (Warren) Gray. She was raised in Reynoldsville, PA and graduated from Reynoldsville High School in 1933. Dorothy then graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelor of Science in 1942. She taught high school business at Reynoldsville High School during WWII. Her first husband, Robert Crooks was killed in the Philippines in 1945. She later met Paul S. Handwerk while attending graduate school at Penn State in 1948. They were married at St. Johns UCC, Slatington in March of 1949. She was a homemaker and mother. She accompanied her husband on assignments in the Midwest and Washington, DC. They retired in Slatington in 1974. She was a member of St. John's UCC Choir and served as a past president of the Slatington Woman's Club.

Survivors: Son, Stephen P. & his wife Molly Handwerk of Camp Hill, PA and two grandchildren, Carrie A. & Matt S. Handwerk. Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Borden & Francis McCreight.

Services: 11:00am, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. 2nd St., Slatington. Calling, Monday, April 5, 2010 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the funeral home.
