Douglas C. Shiner



Douglas C. Shiner, 77, of Walnutport, passed away, October 25, 2010, in his home. He was the husband of Judith A. (Lentz) Shiner. Born in Slatington, he was the son of the late Edward J. & Lucille M. (Scheffler) Shiner. Douglas was a veteran of the Korean War where he was a Marine from 1953 to 1956. He worked as a claims adjuster for Erie Insurance retiring in 1995. Prior to that he worked for Colonial Life Ins. He was an active member of the Walnutport Playground Association and the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport. He coached baseball and little league football for 25 years.

Survivors: His wife, Judith, sons, Douglas Jr. & wife Glynis Shiner of Absecan, NJ., Gregory J. Shiner of Palmerton, daughters, Betsy L. Shiner of Virginia Beach, VA, Melissa J. & husband Todd Evans of Tabernacle, NJ., grandchildren, Kelsea, Austin, Jarrett & Zachery, brothers, Edward J. Shiner, Jr. of AZ and Ronald A. Shiner of Mt. Pocono, PA.

Memorial Service: Friday, October 29, 2010, 2:30pm at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington. Calling, 1:30 to 2:30pm at the funeral home.
