Ellen Jane (Peters) Steigerwalt



Ellen Jane (Peters) Steigerwalt, 81, of Center Valley, formerly of Walnutport, passed away July 8, 2010, in her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in Walnutport, she was the daughter of the late Allan W. & Pearl (Moser) Peters. Her father was head cashier of the Walnutport State Bank. She was the devoted wife of the late Paul H. Steigerwalt whose passing preceded hers by only seven weeks. They had celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last July. Ellen Jane attended Kutztown State Teachers College, and she nurtured a love of learning and the arts in her two sons and granddaughter. She was a member of St. John's UCC, Slatington, where her grandfather, Neri F. Peters was pastor from 1886 to 1929.

Survivors: Sons, Gary Steigerwalt & wife Dana Muller of S. Hadley, MA and Thomas & his wife Pamela Steigerwalt of Zionsville; granddaughter, Jenna Steigerwalt of Tempe, AZ, brother in law; Douglas Relyea of Bethany, CT; nephews, Douglas Relyea Jr., Allan B. Relyea of PA, nieces, Susan E. Relyea of Ohio and Mary Ellen Relyea of North Carolina. Ellen Jane was predeceased by her sister, Mary Lou (Peters) Relvea.

Services: 2:00pm, Monday, July 12, 2010 at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington. Calling, 1-2:00pm at the funeral home.
