Ethel Berg

February 20, 1926 — November 11, 2021

Ethel H. Berg, 95, formerly of Slatington, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehab Center, Lehighton.   Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Terplan) Suto.  Ethel worked for local sewing mills and retired from Paris Neckware at the age of 72. Ethel was an entrepreneur and in the past was an owner operator of a country tavern and a small general store.  She proudly recounted her time as a young woman working in an aircraft assembly plant during WWII. In her younger years she enjoyed visiting Atlantic City and dreamed of visiting Hawaii one day. She loved the color purple and wore it often.
Ethel is survived by a daughter: Diane Mertz of Kutztown, PA; sons: Eugene Rehrig and wife Jean of Akron, PA, Danny Rehrig of FL; grandson: Robert Mertz; great-grandchildren: Robbie Culmer and Kathryn Mertz; sister: Yolanda and husband William Honsel of Coplay; brother: Eugene Suto of Slatington; sister-in-law: Margie Babyak of Slatington.   Ethel was predeceased by son-in-law, Keith Mertz, granddaughter, Rebecca Mertz, and siblings, Elsie Milkovitz, William Suto, Raymond Suto, and Joseph Suto, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington PA.   Family and friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11AM.  Burial of cremains to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Allentown.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ethel’s name can be made to the Slatington Volunteer Fire Company or Northern Valley EMS. The family would like to thank the nursing home staff for all their caring support for Ethel over the past four years.
