Gerald L. Borger, Sr.

December 27, 1943 — July 10, 2025

Slatington

Gerald L. Borger, Sr., 81, of Slatington, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 10, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sharon L. (Kressley) Borger with whom he shared 60 years of marriage before her passing in January of 2012. Born in Slatington, he was the loving son of the late Samuel and Vera (Frey) Borger.

Gerald graduated from Slatington High School in 1961 and spent over 40 years working for NJ Zinc Co., where he held various roles, including that of a highline crane operator, before retiring. He was a proud member of the Hungarian Club in Palmerton.

A devoted Philadelphia sports fan, Gerald loved cheering on the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers. Rarely missing a game, he was often found passionately yelling at the television. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and treasured camping trips with his family. An avid birdwatcher, Gerald had an impressive ability to identify nearly any bird that visited his backyard. More than anything, Gerald was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children Lori L. Sturdik and partner John F. Dotter of Slatington and Gerald L. Jr., and wife, Wendy of Palmerton; grandchildren, Adam L. Sturdik of Slatington, Dalton D. Dotter of Slatington, Kevin L. Borger of Bowmanstown, and Heather L., wife of Brett Dreher of Palmerton; great grandchild, Ryder L. Borger; and sister, Gloria Bartholomew of Mahoning Township; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Sharon, he was predeceased by siblings Marvin Borger and Carolyn Frable.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Harding Funeral Home is honored to be handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory to The American Cancer Society. Checks can be made payable to The American Cancer Society and may be mailed to Harding Funeral Home at 25-27 N. 2nd St., Slatington, PA 18080.
