Joan M. Wieand, 87, of Slatington passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. She was the wife of Franklin D.R. “Ted” Wieand whom she married on October 23, 1954. Born in Slatington, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Catherine (Scott) Chandler. Joan worked as a sewer for the former Paris Accessories, Walnutport for many years before retiring. Prior to, she worked briefly for the former Keystone Lamp Factory, Slatington. Joan was a faithful member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Slatington. She enjoyed camping and playing cards with her family.
In addition to her husband Ted, she is survived by a son: James Wieand and wife Susan of Slatington; daughters: Catherine Wieand of Slatington, Janice and husband Daniel Demko of Walnutport; daughter-in-law: Cindy Wieand; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers: Edmund Chandler and wife Carol of Orefield, Joseph Chandler and wife Pat of Slatington, Eugene Chandler and wife LeAnn of Northampton, Denis Chandler and wife Florence of Walnutport; sisters: Veronica wife of the late Dominick DeFuso of Macungie, Mary and husband Lamont Raub of Palmerton; sisters-in-law: Anna, Mary Ellen and Loretta Chandler; many nieces, nephews and loved ones from the Wieand family. Joan was predeceased by sons: Joseph Wieand and his wife Susan and Jeffry Wieand and his son, and brothers: Paul, Albert and Jon “Jack” Chandler.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, 649 W. Washington Street, Slatington. Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 11Am at church. Interment to follow at the Parish Cemetery, Slatington. Arrangements are under the care of Harding Funeral Home, Slatington. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Assumption BVM Memorial Fund.
