Lovett E. “Lovey” Best, 83 of Walnutport passed away Sunday November 16, 2014 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville PA. He was the husband of Joanne G. (Smith) Best; they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last January. Born in Walnutport, he was the son of the late Robbie and Martha (Reed) Best. Lovey was member of the Army National Guard serving from the Allentown Armory. He worked for the former Bethlehem Steel in the steam & air department for 42 years. He also worked for Lehigh Valley Sporting Goods in Coplay for 36 years. He served as former secretary of the Blue Mountain Fish & Game, Walnutport, past president of Walnutport Playground Assoc, and started the first girl’s softball team. Lovey was a hunter safety instructor, lifetime member of the Slatington Skeet Club, and the Diamond Fire Co., Walnutport. and a member of the Beagle Club in Walnutport. He loved square dancing, and was an avid outdoors man. He was a member of Christ UCC, Walnutport, where he served on consistory, choir and provided their maintenance.
Survivors: Wife; Son; Michael R.C. Best and wife Connie of Slatington. Daughters; Suzanne L. and husband Bryon W. Kern of Emerald, Kathy S. and husband Robert W. Marsh, and Connie S. and husband Peter Kovacic of Pottstown. 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren. Brother; Lester Best of Walnutport. Sister; Bessie Peters of Allentown. Many Nieces & Nephews. He was pre-deceased by a grandson Robert M. Best.
Services: 11am Thursday November 20, 2014 Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington. Calling hour 10-11am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery, Slatington.
