Nevin Smith

October 9, 1921 — August 14, 2017

Nevin C. Smith, 95 formerly of Danielsville, passed away Monday August 14, 2017 at the Village at Palmerton. He was the husband of the late Verna E. (Handwerk) Smith, who passed away in 1992.
Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late George W. and Ella J. (Frack) Smith. Nevin was an US Army veteran who served during WWII. He worked for Universal Atlas Concrete in Northampton for 32 years, retiring in 1981. Nevin was an active member of St. Paul’s’ U.C.C., Indianland, serving as an elder, deacon, sexton and caretaker of Indianland cemetery for many years. He was a member and former commander of Oplinger Hower American legion Post 899.
Survivors: Children: Wilfred Smith and wife Irene, of Walnutport, Ruth Fritz of Danielsville, Allen Smith and wife Peg of Bowmanstown, Jay Smith and wife Cathy of Danielsville, Richard Smith and wife Cathy of Walnutport, Louis Smith and wife Sherry of Lehighton, Louise Smith of Lehighton, Victoria and husband Timothy Frantz of New Tripoli; 16 Grandchildren; 17 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
Services: 11 A.M. Wednesday August 23, 2017 St. Paul’s U.C.C., 787 Almond RD, Cherryville. Calling hours 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday August 22 in the Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St, Slatington and 10 to 11 A.M. Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors to follow at Indianland Cemetery.
