Robert “Bob” F. House, 91, of New Oxford, PA, formerly of Gettysburg, PA and Hillsborough, New Jersey, passed away peacefully August 3, 2026, at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Y. (Kuhnsman) House, whom he married on September 3, 1955. Born in Palmerton on March 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Frederick and Florence (Frable) House. Bob was a graduate of Slatington High School, Class of 1952. He then continued his education, receiving a BS from West Chester, and a Master of Education from Penn State. Bob served his country honorably and proudly, as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. He began his teaching career working briefly for Wildwood High School as a Health / Phys Ed instructor, before becoming the first Athletic Director at Hillsborough High School, where he taught for 33 years until his retirement in 1995. Bob was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Slatington, Faith Lutheran Church, Hillsborough and current member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg. Bob was beloved by his students and was always kind and respectful to everyone he met. He had a lifelong love of learning and taking on new challenges, teaching himself to crochet, play the piano, drawing and studying US Civil War history. In his retirement years, Bob shared his passion for the Civil War by driving the Gettysburg tour bus, while narrating the war history to visitors. He and his wife, Pat, loved to travel and along with the love for his family, he had a special place in his heart for his dog, Bo.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, Patricia, he will be lovingly remembered by his 3 children, Lori wife of Karl Yost of NJ, Patrice wife of Dominick Perfetti of DE, Robert House, Jr., and wife Laura of Hanover; grandchildren, Amanda Jenkins (Christopher), Phillip Zagunis, Courtney House, Meghan Smith (Tyler), David Yost, Timothy Yost; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jonah, Brielle, Benjamin, Emily.
A funeral service will be held at 12noon on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. 2nd Street, Slatington, PA. Family and friends may pay their respects from 11AM to 12PM. Interment with military honors to follow at Union Cemetery, Slatington. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s name are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, c/o the funeral home.
