Shirley L. Kern

Shirley L. Kern, 91, formerly of Emerald, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Forrest Hills Health Care Center, Weatherly. She was the wife of the late Walter H. “Sonny” Kern, who passed away in 2013. Born in Allentown on June 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Norma (Wehr) Frederick. Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for many years for the former Pieschler’s and the Keystone Lamp Factory, Slatington. She loved bingo and enjoyed running the bingo games at the Emerald Fire Co.

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her son; Bryon Kern and wife Suzanne of Emerald; daughter; Bridget Kern of Weatherly; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother: Sherwood Frederick of Tatamy. She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley Kern in 2009.

Private family graveside services will be held. No calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.
