Shirley Scarl

Shirley Scarl, 77 of Slatington formerly of Mertztown died Sunday June 8, 2014 in her home. She was the wife of the late Douglas H. Scarl, Sr. Born in Catasauqua, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (Frantz) Bernd. Throughout her working career, Shirley worked in restaurant management, as a nurse, and as a certified EMT. Her greatest love though,was dog breeding, A member of the AKC, Shirley trained and bred bouviers and German Shepherds, some of which worked on the K9 force. She was instrumental in the creation of the Lehigh Township Ambulance, and was also a member of the Lehigh Valley Dog Club.

Survivors: Sons; Harold Scarl and wife Wanda of Mertztown, Rockie Scarl, Sr. and wife Ann of Whitehall. Daughter; Tami Scarl Hauck and fiancé Barry Hausman, Jr. of Slatington. Grandchildren; Barry Hausman, III, April Scarl, Rockie Scarl, Jr., Amanda Scarl, Candice Wilson, and Michael Scarl. 4 Great Grandchildren. Sister; Alva Rieghtler. Shirley was pre-deceased by a son, Douglas Scarl, Jr. and a brother Donald Bernd.

Services. 11am Thursday June 12, 2014 Harding Funeral Home 25-27 N. Second Street, Slatington. Calling hour 6-8pm Wednesday June 11 and 10-11am Thursday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Neffs Union Cemetery.
