Wallace G. Kern 88, of Slatington, passed away August 30, 2016, at his home. He was the husband of Eileen M. (Skutches) Kern. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary May 4th of this year. Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Lee and Helen (Gehringer) Kern. He served his country honorably in the US Army during Korean War. Wally worked for Verizon as a repairman for 42 years in the Slatington and surrounding areas before retiring in 1989. Wally was involved with many organizations, they are as follows: Life Member Emerald Star Hose Co, Emerald, Life member Blue Ridge Gun Club, Walnutport Canal Assoc, Founding member of the Poor Man's Golf assoc, Lehigh Gap Nature Center and St. Joh's UCC Slatington and The American Legion Post 16 where he received a 50 year membership pin. Survivors: Wife; daughter, Beth wife of Carl P. Collis, Northampton; sister, Lois Dillard, Slatington; 1 grandson, Josh Collis, Northampton; nieces and nephews. Services: Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 am, in St. John's UCC. 15 Second St, Slatington. No calling hours. Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. Second St., Slatington is handling arrangements.
